Evaluation of novel perennial pasture systems for livestock producers in the high rainfall zone of south west Victoria.

Claire’s project aims to assess the profitability and risk of novel perennial pasture systems for livestock production in south western Victoria. Both a representative farm model and real farm case studies will be used to compare performance over time between common current practice for the region, and two of the novel perennial pasture systems developed by EverGraze. The method and results of the analysis will provide information useful for farmers making decisions about investing in new pasture and will provide a basis for future economic analysis at the EverGraze Hamilton Site.

Claire’s research falls into the Program 1 research stream is related of the EverGraze project.

Objectives:

  • Create a representative farm model to assess the profitability and risk associated with the Hamilton EverGraze perennial pasture systems
  • Conduct real farm case studies to help validate the computer model, and to provide extra insight into perennial pasture investment in the region.
